Release GiNaC 1.5.4
by Jens Vollinga 04 Nov '09

04 Nov '09

Hi everybody, GiNaC 1.5.4 is out and available. The changes are: * Default parser now can again read in user defined classes. * Add mul::info() and add::info() support for numeric info_flags (GiNaC now can detect that the sum or product of a number of positive expressions is again a positive expression). * Fixed cast that caused compile error on 64bit machines. * Fixed incorrect uses of STL iterators. * Removed subdirectory debian. * Output LaTeX-symbols using \mathrm, instead of \mbox. As always, this release can be downloaded from http://www.ginac.de/Download.html Best wishes, Jens

GiNaC and polylogarithms
by Emanuele Bagnaschi 11 Oct '09

11 Oct '09

Hi, I'm a student of physics at the University of Milan (Italy), I was recently introduced to harmonic and multiple polylogarithms and their respective numerical evaluation methods. I was also asked to look at the implementations of these algorithms in GiNaC and, if possible, to improve the capabilities of this library. By testing the functions already provided and by reading the documentation I think I found a few things which are missing - correct me if I'm wrong and these functionalities are already implemented or are simply unneeded. First, G-functions currently evaluate numerically only for real arguments y >= 0. Secondly, in the tutorial is written that there's no support for compiling expressions containing polylogarithms to C function pointers. Finally, I see that there are some "TODO" comments in inifcns_nsdsums.cpp which describe missing features. I'm also open to any other suggestions. All comments are welcome. Best regards -- Emanuele A. Bagnaschi

Powers of exponents
by Vladimir V. Kisil 04 Oct '09

04 Oct '09

Dear All, I noticed that exp() functions is not aware of power() method. As a results simple things like pow(exp(a), 2) are not simplified to exp(2*a). I am attaching the corresponding patch. Best wishes, Vladimir -- Vladimir V. Kisil email: kisilv(a)maths.leeds.ac.uk -- www: http://maths.leeds.ac.uk/~kisilv/
