Is ncmul depreciated?

I am trying to use GiNaC in, GNU Octave, an interactive scripting language used primarily for numerical analysis. Below, I provide some output from octave. Can you provide any clues as to what I may be doing to make the following assertion to fail? install on linux with rpm

I am using redhat 7.0. Here is the result of attempting to install ginac via the rpm: [root@rosewall rfell]# rpm -ivh GiNaC-0.7.3-1.i386.rpm GiNaC ################################################## /sbin/ldconfig: /lib/gnulibc1/libiberty.so.1.0 is not a shared object file (Type: 1). [root@rosewall rfell]# What does this error message mean? (I assume it is an error message since ginac is not installed.) ...there is some great new compiler food! It's called GiNaC-0.8.0, it is completely fat- and cholesterol-free and available at every good grocery shop next to you. For the not so brave and adventurous, Debian and RedHat pre-cooked servings are expected to follow next week (well maybe). Here is the summary from the NEWS file: * Complete revamp of indexed objects. Instead of multiple classes for indexed things and their indices there is now only one "indexed" class and two types of indices: "idx" for simple indices and "varidx" for indices with variance. There are predefined delta, epsilon and metric tensors, and a function simplify_indexed() that performs canonicalization and dummy index summations. Matrix objects can be indexed for doing simple linear algebra. * Added an option "expand_indexed" to expand() to perform expansion of indexed objects like (a+b).i -> a.i + b.i * Renamed get_indices() to get_free_indices(), which no longer returns dummy indices and checks the consistency of indices in sums. * sqrfree() factorization fixed and improved syntactically. * subs() works on matrices. * Matrices can be constructed from flat list of elements; diagonal matrices can be constructed from list of diagonal elements with diag_matrix(). * Fixed memory leak in expand(). * Operator% for objects of class ncmul has gone. Use operator* now for that case too, which is much more natural. configure problem

I am attempting to install ginac on redhat 7.0. First step, get cln-1.1, and unzip, untar, etc. This resulted in a directory cln-1.1 being created. From there, I ran ./configure, make, make check and make install. Everything seemed to go fine since there were no error messages. Next step. Go to my GiNac-0.7.1 directory and run ./configure. Here is the relevant error message. <snip lots of stuff> checking for cln-config... /usr/local/bin/cln-config checking for CLN - version >= 1.1.0... no *** Could not run CLN test program, checking why... *** The test program compiled, but did not run. This usually means *** that the run-time linker is not finding CLN or finding the wrong *** version of CLN. If it is not finding CLN, you'll need to set your *** LD_LIBRARY_PATH environment variable, or edit /etc/ld.so.conf to point *** to the installed location Also, make sure you have run ldconfig if that *** is required on your system. <snip more stuff> **** The following problems have been detected by configure. **** Please check the messages below before running "make". **** (see the section 'Common Problems' in the INSTALL file) ** No suitable installed version of CLN could be found. Chances are a most naive error on my part. From the error messages, it appears that the configure script is not looking in the correct directory(ies). And since I got cln from its web site, I assume it is the appropriate version. Perhaps I am wrong? Any help is greatly appreciated. This is to inform you that version 0.7.2 went out a couple of seconds ago. Q: Is it worth the upgrade from 0.7.1? A: Not unless you are doing some serious stuff with power series expansion. Q: What's going to happen next? A: A major cleanup regarding all things that do not compute is going on. This might also include a more convenient syntax for matrix operations and such things. Q: What do you guys in your spare time? A: Spare time? What's spare time? Q: Will this new version have effects on my sex life? A: Again, if you are doing serious stuff with power series, then it might very well have some effects. Hunting down bugs late at night is known to disturb your sanity. indexed objects

Hi everybody! I tried to figer out how to use the classes of indices and indexed objects built in into GiNaC but to be honest I failed. Unfortunately there's nothing about this in the tutorial. Is there any example available? I could initialize color or lorentzvectors or their indices but I don't know how to handle scalar products or simplify a chain of color objects, etc. Thanks for any help! ...which is why the announcement for version 0.7.1 didn't go out. It's to be found on the usual places. It is mainly a bug-fix release, but some of the stuff may represent a heavy improvement. In particular, all those folks who were having this or that particular algebraic problem since 0.7.0, please see if it's been solved. Luck -richy.
