I'm just starting a class project to implement formal manipulation for various functions useful for physics. Just looking at the basis though, I'm not sure whether to implement this as an object with ginac as a component class, or an extension to ginac. The results of my doodling will be released of course. The first means my project is independant of ginac insofar that I don't care about the version unless the interface changes. The second seems more ideologically pure, but implies much patching and such headaches for every version. I'm guessing the first, unless someone wants me to integrate my efforts with ginac, which I'm not sure belong to the project. For reference, some of the functions I plan to implement Sperical harmonics Integration Bessel functions And blah and blah and blah reading out of my mathematics for physicists book. Simplifying sin^2+cos^2

Hi, I'm working on some symbolic algebra for the solution of a 6R robot manipulator. The expressions I'm dealing with have a lot of cos(x)^2+sin(x)^2 terms. Is there any way I can simplify these within GiNaC to get these terms equal to 1? Rounding

Forgive this simplistic question, but I'm going around the bend. I have an ex, on which I've performed many manipulations, of which I want the value. It's a polynomil in x, and evaluating poly.subs(x==valThatIWant) gives me another ex, which, when output, is the correct number, to 17 decimal places. I need this number as a double value, only to 10 decimal places. What can I do? Setting Digits to various values in various places does not seem to change anything. Any help is welcome. Undefined symbols for ginsh

Hello all, Apologies if you got this mail twice, but the set of people on ginac-list and ginac-devel is neither disjoint nor is one a subset of the other... This is to notify you that we've uploaded version 0.4.1 of GiNaC yesterday. The updated documentation is sitting on <http://www.ginac.de/> as well. Please read the News if you are curious on what has changed (it ain't anything dramatic). Check it out, test it, submit bug-reports and (if possible) fixes! Just to keep people informed about current development, let me mention that the next release will probably feature an interface to the CINT C++ interpreter <http://root.cern.ch/root/Cint.html> by Masaharu Goto. This will allow people to write C++ scripts interactively and to compile them later. We'll get another interactive interface to GiNaC besides ginsh this way---one with all loop constructs, conditionals and containers known from C++. Can't compile ginsh

I have compiled GiNaC on a Debian Linux Potato box. The library compiled OK and I have successfully tested a few examples from the tutorial with correct result. configure suggestion

It would be nice to add an option to tell configure where to find cln includes and lib. Lacking that, it should be documented that this will work: CPPFLAGS=/usr/local/include ./configure It also would be nice to fix cln so it be default installs headers in /usr/local/include/cln instead of /usr/local/include. I did this manually by saying: make install includedir=/usr/local/include/cln - To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to ginac-list(a)ginac.de with a subject of "unsubscribe".
