There has been a bug in the last version where .normal() was returning wrong results for certain rational functions like 1/(5-4*a)*(-5-2*a-(3+2*a)*(2-5*a)/(-2+a)) which is now fixed. Also, this version features an improved and more flexible scheme for registering functions which makes extensions easier and also allows writing remembering functions in a clean way. Resource Requirements?

Hi, I was having problems getting past the './configure' step on my linux system -- checking for -lcln to be exact. I eventually learned to look at the 'config.log' file and realized the problem. While compiling the test program for the "-lcln" check my system ran out of virtual memory (see config.log snippet and /proc/meminfo data below). However, if I try to compile the test program on my own - outside the 'configure' script - then I have no problems. Any ideas about how to get around this? I could just kluge the 'configure' script since I know '-lcln' works. I'm wondering though if my 233 MHz,32MB RAM linux box isn't going to be able to handle ginac. Any ideas? In the mean time, I'm trying to get ginac installed our Sun Enterprise servers at work but I'm having trouble there too (but I'll tinker with that some more before bugging all of you!) Physics is Phun.

I'm just starting a class project to implement formal manipulation for various functions useful for physics. Just looking at the basis though, I'm not sure whether to implement this as an object with ginac as a component class, or an extension to ginac. The results of my doodling will be released of course. The first means my project is independant of ginac insofar that I don't care about the version unless the interface changes. The second seems more ideologically pure, but implies much patching and such headaches for every version. I'm guessing the first, unless someone wants me to integrate my efforts with ginac, which I'm not sure belong to the project. For reference, some of the functions I plan to implement Sperical harmonics Integration Bessel functions And blah and blah and blah reading out of my mathematics for physicists book. Simplifying sin^2+cos^2

Hi, I'm working on some symbolic algebra for the solution of a 6R robot manipulator. The expressions I'm dealing with have a lot of cos(x)^2+sin(x)^2 terms. Is there any way I can simplify these within GiNaC to get these terms equal to 1? Rounding

Forgive this simplistic question, but I'm going around the bend. I have an ex, on which I've performed many manipulations, of which I want the value. It's a polynomil in x, and evaluating poly.subs(x==valThatIWant) gives me another ex, which, when output, is the correct number, to 17 decimal places. I need this number as a double value, only to 10 decimal places. What can I do? Setting Digits to various values in various places does not seem to change anything. Any help is welcome. Undefined symbols for ginsh

To Whom It May Concern: I am using: Operating system: SunOS samsun 5.6 Generic_105181-03 sun4u sparc SUNW,Ultra-Enterprise Compiler: egcs-2.91.57 CLN: version 1.0.2 CLN and GiNaC are configured with default settings, except that CLN is only shared libraries. My linker is complaining about undefined symbols in 'ginsh_parser.o'. Any way that you can help is greatly appreciated.
