I am using redhat 7.0. Here is the result of attempting to install ginac via the rpm: [root@rosewall rfell]# rpm -ivh GiNaC-0.7.3-1.i386.rpm GiNaC ################################################## /sbin/ldconfig: /lib/gnulibc1/libiberty.so.1.0 is not a shared object file (Type: 1). [root@rosewall rfell]# What does this error message mean? (I assume it is an error message since ginac is not installed.) Thanks, Dick Fell - To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to ginac-list@ginac.de with a subject of "unsubscribe".

Interesting. To which package does this file belong? Bye, Christian -- / Coding on PowerPC and proud of it \/ http://www.uni-mainz.de/~bauec002/ - To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to ginac-list@ginac.de with a subject of "unsubscribe".
Christian - Thank you for responding to my queries. The below mentioned file belongs to libc5-1.0-2. Dick Christian Bauer wrote:

You are likely to have problems with any other package that contains shared libraries. I suggest uninstalling libc5 (or uninstalling it, installing GiNaC, then re-installing libc5 if you really need it).
