So many correct things have been said, but I do feel that I have to address this one: Many aspects in GiNaC are designed such that interactive use from interpreters *is* easily possible. Just consider the entire ex wrapper class, for instance.
Interactive manipulation is kind of pointless if the expressions in question consists of 10^6 -- 10^8 of terms, isn't it?
