Crash during startup

Hi! Checking out a fresh GiNaC-1.3 tree and configuring --disable-shared (after having called autogen.sh) leaves one with three crashing binaries in the test suite. It seems to be independend of compiler flags. A shared library works, as does ginsh. (@Jens and Cebix: I reproduced this on wino.) Hi, On Wed, 22 Dec 2004 , I have written:the different compile result between the kdevelop and the console compile command. Now I found that is not just trigonometric functions. Hi, Thank you for your answering :) I have worked out this problem. Yes, that is the reason that the exponent 2 of the expression must be defined to integer type. I am sorry that I provided it is double type, 2.0 . However, the error message do not cast light on me clearly enough. by the way, I found the compile result is different between the kdevelop and the console compile command. I think the error may be parameter type of the sin founction, because you definded the parameter of sin() is numeric type(that is smoothful when given the numeric type to x ). If I definded the x as numeric type, I have not given the ginac symbolic computing performance for trigonometric functions... That is so pity. I hope the symbolic computing performance will include the trigonometric functions. Could you give me some advice? Thanks again. some standard functions do not run smothfully everytime the function -- expand: when I used it as follow: #include <iostream> #include <ginac/ginac.h> using namespace std; using namespace GiNaC; main() { ex e = expand(power(x+1,2)); cout << e << endl; } the result given by ginac is: (x+1)^2 but when I give him the parameters as follows: main() { ex e = expand((x+1)*(x+1)); cout << e << endl; } the result is right: 1.0 + x^2.0 + 2.0*x the difference above is conspicuous, when the above function has been used in other C++ class files that have not the main function. could anyone give some advice? thanks! by the way, my computer is PIII 550, REDHAT Linux 9,gcc is 3.0, and the developing tool is kdevelop. thank you - Qin An

Performance Problem with subs

Hello, there is something severely wrong performance wise with subs and or eval in ginac. Suppose I want to expand 1/(a+sqrt(b*b+x*x)) in a power series in x around x==1 and then substitute numerical values (floating point) for a, b and x. Doing this straight forwardly with series(), series_to_poly() and subs() [program 1] needs 0.01 seconds for series and series_to_poly and 15.99 seconds for subs. However, if I define my own functions f1(x)->1/x and f2 (x)->sqrt(x) using DECLARE_FUNCTION_1P and REGISTER_FUNCTION with the only function options being evalf_func and derivative_func [program 2], it takes 0.09 seconds to do series() and series_to_poly() and 0.02 seconds for the subs()! I suspect, that ginac somehow tries to restructure the expression on a large scale, since if I insert an expand() in the first case between series_to_poly() and subs() [program 3], it takes 15.99 seconds to do the expand() and only 0.12 seconds for the subs(). I have used ginac-version 1.2.4-1 on debian sarge. Attached to this Email You find the source code for my program. Please ask if You have any questions. Clifford extension

Dear All, I just learnt from hep-th/9507133 that it is possible and useful to consider Clifford algebras defined from a bilinear form which is not necessarily symmetric. Since present code never actually uses a symmetry of defined metrics I propose to drop such an assumption from anywhere. Bus error with GiNaC-1.3.0 on Mac OS X

Hi, I'm trying to build GiNaC-1.3.0 on Mac OS X 10.3.6 using gcc 3.4.3. The build seems to work fine, and test programs can be linked, but they always fail with a bus error. Running "make check" fails with three successive bus error, after which it gives up.
