Hi there, With a recent gcc HEAD CVS snapshot (which I came to try out because of gcc regression debug/16035 found during compilation of cln) linking against libcln.so fails with gcc-test/bin/g++ -g -O2 exam.o exam_I.o exam_RA.o exam_SF.o exam_FF.o exam_DF.o exam_LF.o exam_I_gcd.o exam_I_sqrtp.o -o .libs/exam ../src/.libs/libcln.so -lgmp -lm -Wl,--rpath -Wl,/usr/local/lib ../src/.libs/libcln.so: undefined reference to `cln::tonelli_shanks_sqrt(cln::cl_modint_ring const&, cln::cl_MI const&)::cl_sylow2gen_property::~cl_sylow2gen_property()' ../src/.libs/libcln.so: undefined reference to `cln::tonelli_shanks_sqrt(cln::cl_modint_ring const&, cln::cl_MI const&)::cl_sylow2gen_property::~cl_sylow2gen_property()' Reversing the logic of the two #if's in src/numtheory/cl_nt_sqrtmodp.cc, which seem to guard against a gcc-2 bug on s390, compilation succeeds and `make check' passes (no further tests done). This is on linux/x86 with no configuration options except setting CC and CXX. Now I'd like to know if this a sign of yet another gcc regression before reporting it? Regards, Ralf

Linking on Mac OS X

Hi there, I'm trying to build CLN 1.1.8 on a G4/Mac OS X 10.3.5 system with the XCode 1.5 tools (i.e. Apple's version of GCC 3.3 and the Mach linker). By disabling shared libraries, I've got quite far with this, up to linking the CLN test case, exam. This gives unresolved externals ending with _ctorend and _dtorend. I've tracked it down to the fact that each object in the library has a _XXX_[cd]torend symbol defined module-local (i.e. nm entry prefixed by "s"). However, each module has an unresolved XXX_[cd]torend symbol (nm entry prefixed by "U"), without the underscore prefix. This is the CL_PROVIDE and CL_REQUIRE macros. My include/cln/config.h has ASM_UNDERSCORE defined. I tried to read the macro definition, but got lost. Can anyone help? I searched the archives for relevant information a few days ago and didn't find any. They seem to have disappeared in the meantime??? Thanks in advance.

CLN 1.1.8 released

Hello! CLN version 1.1.8 is out and available from the usual FTP site [0]. It incorporates a fix for a long standing bug recently discovered by Niklas Knutsson and it finally has working support for the AMD64 platform, a.k.a. the Opteron. The reason for this broad advertisement is that whilst revamping the GiNaC mailing lists, Christian Bauer has been so kind to set up a list dedicated to CLN. It's powered by Mailman and you can find information on how to subscribe at [1]. Recently, it has become somewhat popular to use the GiNaC mailing lists for CLN related topics. While this has brought some liveliness to those lists we should try to use <cln-list(a)ginac.de> instead from now on. I do not intend to continue with selective announcements - from now on the list will be used instead and it is recommended that you subscribe if your interest is fervent. :-) Regards -richy.
